It makes sense for the holiday season to feel both joyful and uncomfortable. The holidays can at times require us to navigate unresolved conflicts with family members, differing values, and stressful interactions. Please know you are not alone if this sounds like something you experience. Below are a few tips for taking care of you during the business of the holiday season.
Acknowledge your feelings. Tuning inward to listen to what you are experiencing and what your needs are can be challenging but important. However you might feel during the holiday season is valid and recognizing what your needs are during stressful times can be beneficial in tending to yourself with more care and compassion.
Have a support plan. You do not have to face the heaviness of the holiday season alone. Perhaps there is a trusted friend, furry companion, or activity that feels supportive and grounding. Making time to connect with whatever that looks like for you can be helpful in navigating stressors during the holidays.
Practice self compassion. You are deserving of care, kindness, and validation. However the holidays look for you, please know you are not alone. Practicing self-compassion might look like prioritizing sleep, allowing yourself to fully feel your feelings, or giving yourself permission to say no. However self compassion looks for you, try to intentionally bring awareness and compassion to all parts of yourself during this holiday season.
Sometimes, extending ourselves compassion can look like seeking extra support. Here at Find Your Shine, we know how helpful it can feel to be supported.
