October 10th is World Mental Health Day and as a group of mental health therapists, we can’t think of any “holiday” worth celebrating more. Because mental health is so near and dear to us at Find Your Shine, we surveyed each therapist at our practice to see what mental health means to them as an individual and practitioner.
See their responses below:
Jaime: I am an EMDR therapist, to me mental health means processing your past trauma so it no longer dictates your current feelings and behaviors.
Maddy: I'm a DBT therapist, to me mental health means listening to the helpful information we get from both our logic and our emotions to make decisions that align with our goals and values.
Paige: I'm a child therapist, to me mental health means learning from the beginning that not only are our emotions beautiful, important, and valid but also that the presence or absence of any emotion does not change our inherent worth.
Amanda: I'm an OCD therapist, to me mental health means knowing that your obsessive thoughts do not define who you are as a person.
Rosa: I’m an Anxiety therapist, to me mental health means learning to validate how we’re feeling without reinforcing our anxiety’s fears.
Lisa: I am an IFS therapist, to me mental health means our parts hold such valuable insights, let's listen and hear what they have to share.
Emma: I'm an eating disorder therapist, and to me, mental health means learning that you and your body deserve tender loving care and that your emotions and internal experiences are important and valid.
Nikki: I'm a Trauma therapist and to me, mental health means understanding how our experiences shape the perceptions of ourselves and the world, and working to gain a sense of safety, self compassion, and connection.
Sachi: I am a couples therapist, to me mental health means listening to understand and for deeper knowing from a place of curiosity and empathy.
Tianna: I am a Somatic Experiencing therapist. To me mental health means fostering the mind-body connection & trusting the innate wisdom the body holds to heal.
Brittaney: I am an ERP therapist, to me mental health means learning to tolerate uncertainty and understanding we can do hard things.
Vanessa: I am an I-CBT therapist, to me mental health means learning to trust in yourself.
